The Naked PC Newsletter Senior Contributing Editor
Al Gordon runs Gordon Communications, a Boston-area wordsmithing company, and is a principal in the strategic consulting firm, Mary Fifield Associates. A long-time journalist and public affairs professional, Gordon learned about computers the old-fashioned way: sheer necessity. Forced to deal with all the awkward technology [electric typewriters paired with scanners ... suitcase-sized "portables" ... the trash80 ... dumb terminal networks ... etc. etc.] used by the publishing industry, he learned how to keep them from cutting his productivity down to zero. Falling in with a bad crowd (the programmers of the WOPR and PRIME add-ins for Microsoft Word and Office), Gordon successfully blew up multiple betas of their wares. He was therefore as surprised as anyone to find himself writing articles for the Undocumented Office newsletter, then serving as Technical Editor for Outlook Annoyances, and lately, Contributing Editor of The Naked PC. He also wrote a technical news column for the MediaOne Express high-speed cable modem Internet service. Gordon has been a reporter and editor for The Patriot Ledger [Quincy, MA], Denver Rocky Mountain News, and Long Island Newsday newspapers, a contributor to various national publications, and was an aide to members of the U.S. House and Senate. When he is wearing his computer consultant hat, he specializes in advising small office and home computer users in system setup and applications use.
